This farm sign has been made using a mixture of signs. The farm name is carved in 6 inch high oak. The information signs below it are made in 4 inch oak. 3"x3" softwood posts have been used and the smaller signs are hung by chains. The main sign has been screwed to the posts intsead of being morticed in.

Oak Pegs
Ideal for smaller signs - no more than 6 inches (150mm) high. The two oak pegs are 24" long allowing 12" underground and a clearance of at least 6" between the ground surface and the bottom of the sign.
Cost - £18.15 per pair
Small Oak Posts 2"x 2" 50x50mm
These are suitable for larger signs or if you require a ground clearance of up to 18". When calculating the length please allow 18" underground.
The 2"x 2" posts are planed down and then treated with several coats of Danish Oil.

Treated Softwood Posts
Although a cheaper alternative to oak these posts are still attractive. They are normally treated with a black preservative and include an oak postcap. Brown preservative is also available.
Signs can simple be screwed onto the posts or, as in the case of this directional arrow sign, they can be morticed into the post. (£8.25 per mortice joint)
For tall posts please allow at least 24" 600mm underground. The 3"x3" post is suitable for most signs.

Oak Posts
Oak is heavy and durable but it is expensive when compared to softwood. The timber is planed, edges routered and the tops are shaped. Several coats of Danish oil are then applied.
We can mortice the signs into the posts if required. (£8.25 per mortice joint)
3" x 3" oak posts are suitable for most signs
As with the signs posts must also be treated regularly with Danish Oil to prevent water penetration and keep them looking attractive. Please note with the larger oak posts cracks can appear as the timber ages.

Posts with Arm for Hanging Signs
These can be made with oak or softwood and are ideal for hanging signs. The posts is 8 foot high and the arm is made to suit the sign. If you are ordering a post without a sign please state the length of arm required. (max 30" for 3"x3" and 36" for 4"x4")
We have sold them for use with double sided slate signs. However we do not sell the fittings. Chain should not be used for slate as it will eventually wear the slate away. Customers have told us that they have successfully used leather straps.

Wrought Iron Brackets for Wooden Signs
These are made for us by a local award winning blacksmith. They are forged on a traditional coal forge. The metal is shaped by hammering, bending and twisting to the required shape.
Hand made wrought iron brackets with wrought iron top fixing plate. The brackets can be attached to a building on onto a 4" x 4" post
